**[Syncthing](https://syncthing.net)** | Continuous file synchronization between 2 or more clients. It is simple, yet powerful, and fully-encrypted and private. Syncthing can be deployed with Docker, and there are native clients for Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD and Android
**[NextCloud](https://nextcloud.com)** | Feature-rich productivity platform, that can be used to backup and selectively sync encrypted files and folders between 1 or more clients. See [setting up sync](https://docs.nextcloud.com/desktop/2.3/installing.html), from more about how to sync a PC with NextCloud server instance. NextCloud is fork of [OwnCloud](https://owncloud.org), which is a good alternative

See [setting up sync](https://docs.nextcloud.com/desktop/2.3/installing.html). A key benifit the wide range of plug-ins in the [NextCloud App Store](https://apps.nextcloud.com), maintained by the community. NextCloud was a hard fork off [OwnCloud](https://owncloud.org).
#### Notable Mentions
[FileRun](https://filerun.com) and [Pydio](https://pydio.com) are self-hosted file explorers, with cross-platform sync capabilities. Encryption needs to be manually configured, and done client-side. Both solutions have been around for a while, but are neither the most performant, nor feature-rich. [Resilio](https://www.resilio.com/individuals) offers a blazing fast for peer-to-peer encrypted file sync program. Self-hosted with a docker image, and client apps for Windows, Linux and mobile. The drawback being that they are only partially open source
Alternatively, consider a headless utility such as [Duplicacy](https://duplicacy.com) or [Duplicity](http://duplicity.nongnu.org). Both of offer an encrypted and efficient sync between 2 or more locations, using the [rsync](https://linux.die.net/man/1/rsync) algorithm.

[SpiderOak](https://spideroak.com), [Tresorit](https://tresorit.com) and [Resilio](https://www.resilio.com/individuals) are good enterprise solutions, all with solid encryption baked-in

#### Word of Warning
You should always ensure that any data stored in the cloud is encrypted. If you are hosting your own server, then take the necissary precautions to [secure the server](https://med.stanford.edu/irt/security/servers.html). For hosted solutions- use a strong password, keep your credentials safe and enable 2FA.
